I reached my limit when my $145 volume set started shedding in uneven patches a week and a half before my best friend's wedding. I wasn't going to pay to get another fill so I bought tons of DIY kits in a huge panic. Since 2024, the difference in quality between salon professional extensions and DIY kits has really closed in. If you want to know more about the different kits, check out our beginner's guide to curl, density, and length to better familiarize yourself with the terms and the tradeoffs before making any purchases.
I compared five lash extension kits based on their differing skills and price levels. There’s a kit for you here whether you’re a beginner wanting to use a mannequin head, or looking to have a 20-minute salon-esque lash session with no cleanup.
How We Tested and Ranked
I wanted to find out if these really work, so I lived in every kit for a few weeks, doing at least four complete sets for each brand. I didn’t just wear the kits. I stress-tested them. I recorded how many times I accidentally glued my tweezers to my eyelids, if they survived my habit of face-planting into my pillow, and if the remover worked or left me looking like a raccoon.

1. VISCOO Professional Eyelash Extension Kit — Best for Beginners Who Want to Learn Properly
Includes a mannequin head and practice pad — learn isolation before touching your own lashes.
View Product - $27.54It is common for starter kits to give beginners a lot of guesswork for the application process. The VISCOO kit goes the extra mile. It comes with a practice head with silicone practice pads, meaning you can master the application process long before you ever have to do it on your own eyes. That is the main reason it is the best kit option for beginners who would prefer not to have practice done on their own face.
The kit comes with individual extensions (as opposed to clusters), professional tweezers, lash glue, a micro-fan, and a mannequin head. In my experience, the tweezers in the kits I’ve tried that are less than $30 tend to slip and won’t grab anything at all, but these tweezers actually grip the lashes. The adhesive passed my test and survived two weeks of everyday use, including a few intense gym sessions.
I spent a solid two hours practicing on the silicone head while watching Netflix before even getting near my own eyes. Frankly, if I didn’t do this, I would’ve probably spent all that time about to to throw my tweezers. At least, that experience taught me to separate the lashes, but without sticking my real ones into a giant clump.
If you prefer to learn single or classic lash application instead of learning cluster application, this is a good option. Keep in mind, that even after mastering this skill, putting individual lashes on a client will take 90-120 minutes compared to clusters taking 20-30. But clusters can’t give the look that single lashes can. Individual lashes are going to look more natural and custom compared to clusters.

2. YIDUO 760Pcs Volume 3D Lash Clusters Kit — Best for Salon-Volume Results at Home
3D volume fans (60D-100D) for salon-density lashes in under 30 minutes.
View Product - $14.99These beautiful lashes are an absolute game changer if you want the effect of doing individual lashes but don’t have the time. Instead of going to a salon and spending hours to get individual lashes, I pressed these lash fans on top of the lash glue I put on and was done in 15 minutes. 100% the best and most time efficient way to get the perfect lashes in a few minutes.
The range is 10mm to 20mm, so you can create a graduated extension cat-eye effect that tapers away from the center. I tried the 16mm fans on the outer corners and 12mm fans on the inner corners, and to my surprise, the results looked professional. After 10 days, I only had lost about 3 fans. The YIDUO Bond and Seal was more effective than any other cluster adhesive in this round-up.
The multi lash fan design from 3D volumizing construction distributes weight more evenly across the lash line compared to thick single pair clusters. These volume fans also help fill gaps and remove the "chunky" appearance from cheap lash clusters without clumping. If you have naturally thin lashes and are worried about lash clusters being obvious, not to worry. To see the full bonding technique, see our step-by-step application guide for the YIDUO 760pc kit with guidance on lash placement and bond technique.

3. OLLAVO 640pc Lash Clusters Kit — Best Budget Entry Point
30D+60D D-curl clusters — the lowest-risk way to try DIY lashes at roughly $10.
View Product - $9.99At $10, the Ollavo kit is an inexpensive way to see if you have the patience for DIY lashes. This kit has options for 30D and 60D density levels. The 30D level is for a natural look, while the 60D density is for a more volumized appearance. D curls can be tricky, but this specific kit has a special lift that helps flatter hoods and monolids.
By day five, the outer corners started peeling more aggressively, and by day seven, all the corners were completely up. Honestly, ten bucks for almost a week of lashes is pretty good. The bond and seal included worked pretty well and didn’t irritate my eyes which is super important especially in the beginning.
The tweezers are the kit’s biggest drawback. Most inexpensive kits have functional but very imprecise tweezers, as is the case here. If you plan on using the kit frequently, I suggest purchasing a better pair of isolation tweezers. However, since this kit is only $10, purchasing a pair of decent isolation tweezers with the kit totals less than the cost of a salon visit.

4. YIDUO 1846Pcs Lash Clusters Kit — Best Mega Kit for Variety and Experimentation
1,846 pieces with spike clusters and bottom lashes — three completely different lash maps from one kit.
View Product - $26.99Our goal for this complete kit was to include as much variety as possible, all for the great price. With this kit, you can play with different looks, using the 1,846 pieces all with lengths from 10mm to 18mm. They include spike clusters and bottom lashes, so you never have to worry about using your supplies too fast. Spike clusters are what produce the trending "manga lash" effect on TikTok. Plus, most DIY kits eliminate bottom lashes, but in this kit, we include them and create definition.
The volume D-curl construction gives an illusion of added weight without actually affecting the overall weight. Because bands sit closer to the lash line, the thickness of the bands do not create an obvious lip effect. From one single kit, I created three distinct lash maps! First, an everyday natural lash look with 12-14m medium density clusters. Second, an intense 18mm outer corner spikes cat-eye. Finally, a manga lash look with volume spikes and bottom lashes.
If you're trying to find the right lash style that suits your eye shape, you can't beat the variety available. By the time I was done looking all over the internet for the right style that suited my eye shape, my bathroom counter was covered with lashes. This was way better than having to buy five individual boxes to figure out.

5. YIDUO 3 Styles Self-Adhesive Lash Clusters Kit — Best No-Glue Option
Pre-applied adhesive, zero fumes, 10-minute application — perfect for travel and sensitive eyes.
View Product - $11.99This fume-free option reduces the risk of irritating eyes for those sensitive to lash adhesives and removers. Each cluster has an adhesive strip that activates with pressure. No bond or seal means no fumes or cleanup.
However, this convenience does come at the cost of durability. Expect these to last one or 2 days, or 3 days if you are a back-sleeper who doesn't touch their eyes. For a special event, a date, or those who want to wear falsies without the time commitment, you can't beat these. There are three variations (Manga, Bunny, and Natural) which offer different looks, and all take less than 10 minutes to switch to the next pair.
They make travel hassle-free by eliminating the need for liquid adhesives and seals. No need to pack bond, seal, primer, or remover. You only have to carry your lashes and a small case. You don't have to worry about the TSA liquid limit, and you don't have to worry about adhesive spills in your bags.

Lash Extensions vs Clusters — Which One Should You Choose?
This is what most people ask on lash forums. The answer will vary based on how much time and how long you want them to last, and if you enjoy the process.
The VISCOO kit offers individual extensions which helps to provide a more customizable and natural look that can last 2-3 weeks with the right aftercare. Full sets with the extensions takes over 90 minutes, even for those experienced. There is a learning curve as isolation can be difficult to master. The other 4 kits use clusters which can take 20-30 minutes to apply, look nearly as good, and last 5-10 days at maximum. The band can show if the clusters aren't applied exactly right.
Recommendation: The VISCOO kit is especially great for users who want to have the patience to learn and develop individualized application skills. For those looking for good lashes with minimal effort, the YIDUO 760Pcs Volume 3D kit is the perfect middle ground.
What No One Tells You About At-Home Lashes
After ruining quite a few of my own natural lashes and spending too much of my time on TikTok looking for tutorials through the night, here are the hard lessons I learned:
Tweezers are usually the weakest link. The tweezers that come in most budget kits under $20 usually don't have the precision that's needed for a smooth application. A $12 pair of isolation tweezers will improve your application more than any other product you add to your kit. This is the one place in your kit that you should spend extra to get better results.
The brand of the false lashes you choose doesn’t really matter as much as the placement technique. The shedding of premature lashes happens more because of how the lashes were applied as opposed to how good the product was. Do not spread the glue on the skin of the eyelids. Focus the glue on the base of the cluster glue. The first time I attempted to apply removables, I applied way too much glue and ended up with beads of glue that clumped together and were absolutely annoying to deal with. You also run the risk having the clusters lifting after just two days if not enough glue is used.
Seal is not optional. Not applying a sealant will make moisture penetrate and break the bond, causing premature loss. If your kit is missing the sealant, you need to buy one. The cost of sealant is $5-8 and will make the lash extensions last 3 - 10 days. We tested budget, mid-range, and premium options in our lash bond and seal comparison if you need a replacement or upgrade.
Which Kit Is Right for You?
The VISCOO kit is meant for the perfect patient. If you're serious about learning the classic individual lash technique and have the patience to spend an hour and a half learning, then getting that practice head is a big deal.
The Yiduo 760 is the way to go for big drama and little time. This hair styling tool creates salon level volume in 20 minutes with less hassle.
If you're on the fence about spending money on lash curlers, consider the Ollavo kit as a trial run to see if you even have the hand-eye coordination for lash curlers! If you have hooded eyes, the Ollavo kit can help with lash curlers with a D-curl that would usually help with lashes that would otherwise be invisible.
Pick up a massive 1846-piece set if you become bored with things easily. An easy solution to your problem is switching your strikes, bottom lashes, and making lengths varies. You can decide to share the entire set with your roommate, so then you'll have plenty to share!
The self-adhesive lashes are perfect for anyone big on lash glam but who hates working with messy lash glue. Grab some for your next weekend trip or make them your solution for weekend-long events like weddings.
